Daniel Jones’ injury update wasn’t promising.
The Giants’ quarterback said he still feels the effects of his neck injury that sidelined him for the team’s Week 6 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
“Still dealing with some of those symptoms from it,” Jones said Tuesday during his weekly appearance on the “Up and Adams Show” on FanDuelTV and YouTube.
“I’m not gonna get specifically into what exactly they are. But I’m trying hard to get back, still dealing with it a little bit, but trying to do everything I can to heal up and prove to the doctors and trainers that I’m ready to go.
“I’m doing everything I can to get back. I hope I can play.”
That Jones is still dealing with symptoms does not bode well for his ability to play in the Giants’ Week 7 clash against the Commanders.
Jones suffered the injury while being sacked during the fourth quarter of the Giants’ Week 5 loss to the Dolphins, and was not even able to practice last week before being ruled out.
There had been initial hope Jones would not miss any time since he avoided the same neck injury that forced him to miss six games in 2021, but that optimism quickly waned.
Backup Tyrod Taylor started in Jones’ place against the Bills.
“It’s tough not playing,” Jones said. “You want to be out there, with the team, with the guys, and help win. I thought we played well, played hard, just came up a little short there at the end. It was a tough way to finish. I thought we played well, I thought Tyrod certainly played well, too.”
Jones sounded somewhat unhappy with the final play of the Giants’ loss to the Bills, a controversial no-call as Darren Waller appeared to be interfered with as Taylor threw a pass to him in the end zone from the 1-yard-line.
“From my perspective, there was a lot of contact,” Jones said. “Yeah, there was a lot of contact.”
