Ted Turner has stated that he suffers from Lewy body dementia, a degenerative brain illness that impairs memory and other cognitive skills.
He discussed his health issues in an interview with Ted Koppel, which will run on “CBS Sunday Morning” on September 30, 2018.
Is Ted Turner ill or sick?
The condition is named after abnormal brain deposits known as Lewy bodies.
These are made of alpha-synuclein, a protein that disrupts brain chemistry, causing difficulties with thinking, behavior, emotion, and mobility.
The term “Lewy body dementia” refers to two related diagnoses: dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson’s disease dementia.
Both are caused by an accumulation of Lewy bodies in the brain.
“It’s a mild case of what people have as Alzheimer’s. It’s similar to that. But not nearly as bad. Alzheimer’s is fatal,” Turner told Koppel at his 113,000-acre ranch near Bozeman, Montana.
“Thank goodness I don’t have that. But, I also have got, let’s – the one that’s – I can’t remember the name of it.” he added
These are only visible after death, during an autopsy.
