This year is only six days old, and the Good Sport of 2016 award already has a strong contender.

During a Hopman Cup match on Tuesday night in Perth, Australia, Lleyton Hewitt was serving down 5-4 and 30-0 to Jack Sock in the second set. The umpire called Hewitt’s first serve out and he seemed ready for his second try before Sock stepped in to advise him about the errant call.

“That was in if you want to challenge it,” he said.

Both Hewitt and the umpire seemed a little baffled at all this sportsmanship.

The replay showed that Hewitt’s serve was indeed in, and he ended up winning the match.

The 34-year-old Hewitt, who turned pro in 1998, is retiring after the Australian Open later this month.
